POLICY 6: COPYRIGHT & TAKEDOWN POLICY
Legal Compliance Version
6.1 Purpose
6.1.1 CRU respects intellectual property rights and complies with applicable Indian copyright law, including:
	•	(a) Copyright Act, 1957
	•	(b) Information Technology Act, 2000
	•	(c) Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021
6.1.2 This Policy establishes a formal notice-and-takedown procedure.
6.2 User Responsibility
6.2.1 Users may only upload content that:
	•	(a) They own
	•	(b) They have permission to use
	•	(c) Is licensed appropriately
	•	(d) Falls under fair use / fair dealing (where applicable)
6.2.2 Users are solely responsible for ensuring they do not infringe third-party rights.
6.3 Reporting Copyright Infringement
6.3.1 If you believe your copyrighted material has been used on CRU without authorization, you may submit a written notice including:
	•	(a) Full name and contact details
	•	(b) Description of copyrighted work
	•	(c) Exact URL or location of infringing material
	•	(d) Statement of ownership or authority
	•	(e) Good faith belief that use is unauthorized
	•	(f) Declaration that information provided is accurate
6.3.2 Notices must be sent to:

6.4 Takedown Procedure
6.4.1 Upon receiving a valid notice:
	•	(a) Acknowledgment within 24 hours
	•	(b) Preliminary review conducted
	•	(c) Content may be temporarily disabled
	•	(d) Removal within 36 hours where legally required
6.4.2 CRU reserves the right to request additional documentation.
6.5 Counter-Notification Process
6.5.1 If content is removed and the uploader believes it was removed in error, they may submit a counter-notice including:
	•	(a) Identification of removed content
	•	(b) Explanation of lawful use
	•	(c) Declaration of good faith belief
	•	(d) Consent to jurisdiction of courts in Chennai
6.5.2 CRU may restore content if legally justified.
6.6 Repeat Infringer Policy
6.6.1 Users repeatedly violating copyright may face:
	•	(a) Warning notices
	•	(b) Temporary suspension
	•	(c) Permanent account termination
6.6.2 Violation history may be retained for compliance purposes.
6.7 Political Campaign Materials
6.7.1 Political advertisements and campaign materials must:
	•	(a) Be properly licensed
	•	(b) Not infringe copyrighted works
	•	(c) Not use protected logos without authorization
6.7.2 CRU may reject or remove political materials that infringe rights.
6.8 Limitation of Liability
6.8.1 CRU operates as an intermediary platform under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
6.8.2 The Company is not liable for user-uploaded content provided it acts upon lawful notice.
6.9 Misuse of Takedown Process
6.9.1 Submitting false or malicious copyright claims may result in:
	•	(a) Rejection of complaint
	•	(b) Account suspension
	•	(c) Legal escalation where appropriate
6.10 Record Retention
6.10.1 CRU may retain:
	•	(a) Notices received
	•	(b) Removal actions taken
	•	(c) Counter-notices submitted
6.10.2 For regulatory and compliance purposes.
6.11 Cooperation with Authorities
6.11.1 CRU may disclose information related to infringement disputes if required by:
	•	(a) Court order
	•	(b) Law enforcement directive
	•	(c) Government mandate
6.12 Policy Updates
6.12.1 This Policy may be updated periodically.
6.12.2 Continued use of the Platform constitutes acceptance of changes.
